MANASSEH HOWARD/HAYWARD and JOHN HAYWARD..
I am a Howard too. I have in the last couple of years traced my Howard's
back to Union, Tolland county Connecticut and an Ancestor named Manasseh
Howard or Hayward (died there in 1836) and his father named John Hayward
born abt. 1735, died 1790 in Ashford, Windham county, Connecticut. He
was
married to Rebecca Peake abt. 1758 and possibly had thirteen children.
His
father was John Hayward. There is another Howard family listed in the
town
but my John Hayward was not listed as a child born to them. If any one
is
researching Howard's and Hayward's in these town's or has information on
them please mail me at

Brenda Lee and legendary songwriters Harlan Howard and Cindy Walker have
been chosen as the Country Music Association's 1997 inductees into the
Country Music Hall of Fame. They will be formally inducted during "The
31st
Annual CMA Awards," to be telecast Wednesday, Sept. 24 (8-11 p.m., Live
ET;
delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network from the Grand Ole Opry House
in
Nashville.
"I'm thrilled that we have three such talented luminaries joining the
Country Music Hall of Fame this year," said CMA Executive Director Ed
Benson. "There are few songwriters whose impact on our industry can
rival
that of Harlan Howard and Cindy Walker, and of course, Brenda Lee, who
brought Nashville's music to the attention of millions of fans around the
globe, and has remained a mainstay for country music fans. CMA is
delighted
to recognize their outstanding achievements by bestowing them with
highest
honor in country music."
Long referred to as the "Dean of country songwriters," Harlan Howard
grew
up in Michigan listening to the Grand Ole Opry, admiring the work of
Ernest
Tubb. Transcribing lyrics off the air, he composed his first original
lines
to fill out the songs whose ending lyrics he missed. He moved to Los
Angeles in 1955 where he met country music personalities such as Tex
Ritter,
Johnny Bond, Skeets McDonald and Wynn Stewart, as well as a talented
newcomer named Buck Owens, who would later take several of Howard's tunes
including "Above and Beyond" and "Tiger By The Tail" to the top of the
charts.
Howard's first big hit came with Charlie Walker's 1958 recording of
"Pick
Me Up On Your Way Down." Soon after, the charts were filled with
Howard's
tunes, including "Mommy For A Day" and "Heartbreak USA" by Kitty Wells,
"The
Wall" by Freddie Hart and "Heartaches By The Number," which scored on the
country charts for Ray Price and on the pop charts for Guy Mitchell.
Other
classics include "I Fall To Pieces," "Life Turned Her That Way," "She
Called
Me Baby," "Too Many Rivers," "Why Not Me" and "Somebody Should Leave."
The
prolific Howard has had hit records in every decade from the 1950s to the
1990s.
